My Mom Needs An Education

The Most Heartwarming Memory of Home, Giving Justice to all “Uneducated” Moms in the World

Commissioned by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra in 2019, Puppet & Its Double creates a new Taiwanese musical, My Mom Needs An Education, based on Fumin Yang’s literary work under the same title. The family in My Mom Needs An Education resembles most people’s families, filled with hardships and little bliss and always able to find bizarre wisdom to live every day with humor and courage. The show stars handsome entertainer Peng Chia Chia and famous actress of Taiwanese opera Lu Hsueh-Feng. On top of the native realistic story, the co-presence of human actors and puppets connects reality, memories and imagination, pushing the plot forward. A surrealistic level of representation is then created by puppetry, reflecting a uniquely Taiwanese mentality that embraces and enjoys lives through self-deprecation.
