In an eternally frozen garden, the Giant needs to find the smile to defrost the frigid winter

The Selfish Giant is another exquisite puppet production from the Puppet & Its Double Theater Company. With its poetic narrative, the play demonstrates the brilliance of the human spirit in the stories of Oscar Wilde. Stacked boxes of different sizes create the contours of the puppet stage, and their clear boundaries suggest the giant’s self-containment. Meanwhile, the puppeteer’s flexible and variable performance gives the piece a sense of harmony and liveliness. The images sometimes become the giant’s body, sometimes a garden or castle. The gentle children and the flowers are in contrast to the strong and powerful giant. Through the poetic and vivid arrangement of mechanics on the puppet stage, puppets from the size of a tiny toy to a huge automaton of a giant, together with live music by designer and musician Luo Fei-Tsuei, The Selfish Giant has been well-received for immersing the audience in the rhythm of its story, unfolding its artistic value and originality.
