一場超越時空、如夢似幻的影像感官旅行
一次戲劇、經典文學及電影相遇的美感體驗
無獨有偶於2004年起連續3年夏天,邀請國際光影戲大師Larry Reed來台,帶領台灣藝術工作者實驗創作,以不同思維深入經典文學「西遊記」,成為一齣十分精彩,集戲劇、文學、以及電影美學的電影式的現代光影劇場。超高10公尺的大螢幕,動用10餘位演員與影偶的共同演出,更是國內首見。水墨畫般的流雲、遠山、亭台樓閣,利用燈光將遠景、中景、近景和特寫交替地淡入淡出;立體的真人戲偶,交疊著現場音樂與人聲,在舞台大螢幕上穿梭演出;媲美動畫的奇幻特效,一幕幕如電影般的流暢進行,令人屏息,嘆為觀止。

A dreamlike journey of shadow images of Monkey King legend beyond time and space
The Puppet and Its Double was honored to work with Larry Reed, an expert of Shadow Theater, from 2004. For three years in a row, Mr. Reed helped with Taiwanese artists to explored multiple threads of thought and composed a contemporary Shadow Theater that mixed drama play, literature, and cinematic aesthetics. In this play, a screen over ten meters was installed on the stage along with a juxtaposed performance of real-life actors and puppets. Such was a pioneer presentation in Taiwan. The images on the screen are organized to articulate the visual beauty and symmetry as well as to manage the specific dramatic tension of the Chinese classic “Journey to the West”. We also experiment the effects such as: ink brush painting; the fade-in and fade-out of various scenes by the maneuver of lighting; real persons in special shadow mask as puppets. On the screen, one scene runs after another like an awesome experience of a wonderful animation.
